Viking named its newest ocean ship, Viking Vela, with a traditional ceremony in Trieste, Italy on 5 December. The naming of Viking Vela also served as a celebration of Viking’s longtime partnership with Fincantieri, which is one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and is based in Trieste.

Viking has taken delivery of the company’s newest ocean ship, Viking Vela, during a delivery ceremony at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy.

Viking has floated out its newest ocean ship—the 998-guest Viking Vela— at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard in Italy, marking a major construction milestone and the first time the ship has touched water. Scheduled to debut in December 2024, Viking Vela will spend her inaugural season sailing voyages in the Mediterranean and in Northern Europe.

Viking has added a new 2024 sailing date of its Malta, Morocco & the Mediterranean voyage. The inaugural 2024 season of the itinerary sold out within weeks of launching in April, making it one of Viking’s most successful to date. The new departure on 19 December 2024 will be on board Viking’s newest ocean ship, Viking Vela.
