Viking has taken delivery of its latest river ship, the Viking Tonle, which will operate exclusively on Southeast Asia’s iconic Mekong River.

The ship will sail the company’s popular 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary through Vietnam and Cambodia.

“Our guests are thinking people who value learning through travel, and the rich history and traditions of Vietnam and Cambodia make this region especially compelling,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking.

“We are pleased that the addition of the Viking Tonle to our fleet allows us to welcome even more curious travellers to the Mekong River and the cultural treasures of Southeast Asia.”

The Viking Tonle joins its sister ship, the Viking Saigon, and is purpose-built for navigating the Mekong. Each of the three-deck ships hosts 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms, all designed in Viking’s signature elegant Scandinavian style. The staterooms feature floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with either a veranda or a French balcony, allowing for sweeping river views.

In addition to its well-appointed staterooms, the Viking Tonle offers upscale amenities including a pool, spa, fitness centre, and an open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck.

Meanwhile, Viking continues to expand strategically with a long-term vision focused on experiential travel. Based on its committed orderbook, the company expects to take delivery of 25 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 additional ocean ships by 2031. With these additions, Viking will operate 112 river ships by 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships by 2031.
