AmaWaterways has launched a second luxury ship, AmaMelodia, on Colombia’s Magdalena River with the new vessel joining AmaMagdalena which set sail earlier this year.
The debut of AmaMelodia on 26 October 2025 underscores the company’s “long-term commitment to fostering sustainable tourism and meaningful cultural connections in the region”, according to the river cruise line.
“After seeing the incredible response to AmaMagdalena earlier this year, we are thrilled to welcome AmaMelodia to the AmaWaterways fleet,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “Launching these two ships has been an extraordinary collaboration with our Colombian partners. Together, we are not only creating unforgettable travel experiences for our guests but also helping to build a sustainable foundation for tourism that benefits local communities along the river.”
Accommodating just 64 guests, AmaMelodia has been designed to “maximise comfort and views of Colombia’s lush landscapes and vibrant riverfront towns.” Spacious staterooms ranging from 22 to 30 square metres feature twin balconies for panoramic views, while the ship’s onboard experiences include locally inspired Latin American cuisine and Western dining options, as well as music and entertainment in the Main Lounge and relaxation in the Sun Deck whirlpool.

“Seeing AmaMelodia set sail is very meaningful to me,” said Kristin Karst, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Ambassador of AmaWaterways. “From its talented artisans to the warm communities along the riverbanks, Colombia’s spirit is woven into every detail of this ship. AmaMelodia is a celebration of that culture and a beautiful example of what can be achieved through true collaboration and respect for local heritage.”
Reflecting AmaWaterways’ deep appreciation for Colombian culture, AmaMelodia showcases hand-crafted décor by local artisans and cuisine that “celebrates regional ingredients.” Guests can choose between two seven-night itineraries – Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia.
Cultural excursions allow travellers to engage directly with local traditions, including a private performance of the Barranquilla Carnival, an exclusive jazz concert in Mompox and a visit to Palenque, the first free town in the Americas.
“The Magdalena River is a symbol of national identity and a hub for sustainable development… connecting travellers with our traditions, landscapes, and communities reflects the type of tourism we want to promote at ProColombia: responsible, inclusive, and transformative,” Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia said.
