The handover for Windstar Cruises‘ newest all-suite yacht, Star Seeker, has taken place at a ceremony in Portugal.
The handover ceremony took place on 15 December at the WestSEA Shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, attended by President Chris Prelog, Chief Operating Officer Stijn Creupelandt, Chief Commercial Officer Janet Bava and Vice President of Expansion Projects John Gunner, along with Captain Tom Schofield and his delivery team. Representatives from WestSEA Shipyard were also in attendance.
“Taking delivery of a new ship is one of the most meaningful moments in a shipbuilding journey,” Prelog said. “From the float out to the handover, we’ve seen Star Seeker take shape with extraordinary craftsmanship. The WestSEA team and Mario Ferreira with Mystic Cruises team have been incredible partners throughout this process, and our crew, led by Captain Schofield, has worked tirelessly to ensure the yacht is delivered in exceptional condition. We cannot wait to welcome guests aboard in just a few short weeks.”

Ferreira echoed that sentiment, highlighting the collaboration behind the project. “Watching Star Seeker evolve from concept to completion has been a point of pride for everyone at WestSEA,” he said. “Windstar challenged us to build a yacht that could reach new destinations, deliver exceptional comfort and operate responsibly. We’re proud to hand her over today knowing she will bring guests closer to the world in ways only a small ship can.”
Star Seeker introduces a range of new features to the Windstar fleet. It offers 112 ocean-view suites, nearly all with private verandas or infinity windows, expansive open decks for scenic viewing, five dining venues including the new Basil + Bamboo, WorldSpa by Windstar and a newly reimagined Marina area. Advanced sustainability and safety technologies are integrated throughout the ship.
The yacht now enters final preparations ahead of its December 2025 debut, beginning with a maiden voyage from Málaga to Miami, where a christening ceremony is scheduled for 15 January 2026. Following its inaugural Caribbean season, the yacht will sail to Alaska and later Japan.
Sister ship Star Explorer will debut in December 2026.
