Atlas Ocean Voyages‘ owner Mystic Cruises has inked a deal with China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Corporation to build one firm order for a new cruise ship, along with options for three additional vessels.

Mystic President Mario Ferreira was on hand to sign the deal at a ceremony in China last week., alongside Mei Zhonghua, the Vice General Manager of China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry and General Manager of China Merchants Cruise Manufacturing Company.

While no further details of the new ship have yet been released, the ships have been confirmed to be tri-fuel. And while it is not confirmed which brand the ship is destined for, Ferreira has previously expressed a desire to expand the Atlas fleet.

In March, Atlas Ocean Voyages President, James Rodriguez, revealed exclusively to LATTE that the expedition line was intending to evolve the design used for World Navigator, World Traveller and World Voyager.

Mystic recently built a series of luxury expedition ships at WestSea in Portugal, with the final vessel, Star Seeker, handed over to Windstar earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Atlas and Mystic have introduced a new generation of digital signage on board Atlas vessels, with the first phase to roll out in Paula’s Pantry, one of the most frequented spaces on board. Here, two existing information screens have been transformed into interactive touch displays, which can be used in a similar way to a personal device.

Here guests can discover the daily events including lectures, tastings and entertainment, and explore shore experiences. They can also follow the ship’s position and route in real time.
