The team behind Origins Lodge in Costa Rica has announced the upcoming soft opening of Origins Astral Luxury Lodge this December. Located in the northern part of the volcano chain in Bijagua, nearby the original Origins property, this new hotel will represent “a true journey through the cosmos.”

With the full opening in January, the flagship Origins Lodge will undergo a slight name change to Origins Floral Lodge. That property opened in 2018 within 111 acres of private rainforest, naturally designed around the earth, flora, and fauna elements.

As for the new property, Origins Astral lodge comprises just seven villas, ranging from two to four guestrooms, ideal for wellness retreats, families and groups of friends. (This comes as a complement to Origins Floral, which is more focused on couples and honeymooners.)

It will also offer a farm-to-table culinary experience at El Cosmo, where guests can visit the lodge’s own garden as part of their dining experience.

Located between the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes at 2,600 feet of elevation, Origins Astral Lodge offers views stretching all the way to Lake Nicaragua, which have inspired the aesthetic concept for the property.

The “astral” theme comes from the local history. The spiritual dimension, according to the team at Origins, is very important to the Maleku tribe to connect with nature. The design, therefore, makes many non-literal artistic references to the planets, clouds and constellations, such as meteorites emerging from the walls and satellite ring-inspired patterns on room ceilings, as well as a cloud-shaped mesh mobile suspended in the reception.

The Kids Club will also feature surprises related to the Lodge’s astral and cosmic themes that intend to spark creativity.

Like the flagship property, Origins Astral Lodge is deeply committed to sustainability and local community involvement. More than 80 percent of all the furniture and equipment within the lodge are crafted at the on-site Origins workshop or by local artisans with wood predominantly sourced from trees that have naturally fallen during past storms or other natural events. Decorative objects throughout the lodge are hand-made by various local artisans including the Maleku community, integrating authentic cultural elements into the design.

Furthermore, the lodge’s commitment to its locale is reflected in its workforce, as 90% of construction workers were hired from the nearby community. Once operational, Origins Astral Lodge will continue to employ staff members from the surrounding area. The hotel is also collaborating with government technical schools to develop a training program, ensuring a clear career path for residents and contributing to educational advancement.
