One&Only has officially debuted in the U.S. as it opened the doors to One&Only Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana, with the new hotel also becoming its first alpine resort.
Set on 240 secluded acres within the Moonlight Basin community and surrounded by more than 17,000 acres of protected wilderness, the property is located just an hour from Bozeman and near the entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

The resort features a range of alpine-chic rooms, suites, freestanding cabins, and expansive Private Homes designed to showcase Big Sky’s sweeping vistas.
The opening fulfills a goal the brand has been working towards for years. “Bringing One&Only to the United States is a milestone we’ve long dreamed of and there’s no place more breathtaking to make our debut than Big Sky, Montana,” Mark Kirby, president of One&Only, said.

With the resort, the company “celebrate[s] wild beauty, bold design, authentic connection, and endless adventure,” he adds, calling the launch “the start of an exciting new chapter.”
Created by architect Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig, the resort’s structures sit low among the trees, integrating natural materials and local artistry throughout. Accommodations include versatile lodge rooms, multi-room family configurations, and the standout Big Sky Suite, which features an expansive wraparound terrace and outdoor soaking tub. Freestanding cabins and the resort’s four- to six-bedroom Private Homes offer additional privacy, indoor-outdoor living, and generous amenities geared toward extended stays.

Culinary experiences play a central role in the resort’s identity. Under Executive Chef Matt Dahlkemper, dining spans from imaginative American comfort food at The Landing to refined ranch-to-table dishes at Wildwood. Michelin-starred chef Akira Back brings his contemporary Japanese cuisine to the mountains, while intimate venues such as Dear Josephine—an homage to a local Prohibition-era moonshiner—and the whiskey-focused Moonshack provide atmospheric escapes.
Long promoted as an all-season adventure destination, One&Only Moonlight Basin now delivers on that promise. Winter guests can access Big Sky Resort’s Madison Base via a heated gondola in just five minutes, while a network of on-property trails supports Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat-tire biking. Summer brings hiking, mountain biking, casting lessons on private lakes, and wildlife encounters, with Yellowstone tours running year-round. Evening stargazing sessions at the resort’s Observatory further highlight the region’s natural spectacle.

“Bringing One&Only Moonlight Basin to life has been an extraordinary journey,” General Manager Serge Ditesheim noted. “Together we have created a resort that honors and celebrates Montana’s wild splendor and community while setting a new benchmark for alpine ultra-luxury hospitality.”
