Report: Waldorf Astoria coming to Baha Mar Resort

LATTE U.S. has been led to believe that the upcoming hotel tower will be a Waldorf Astoria

The new resort tower being built at Baha Mar in Nassau, Bahamas is rumored to be a Waldorf Astoria, LATTE U.S. has learned.

The project—which was first announced in October 2024—will be located on the site of the former Meliá Nassau Beach All-Inclusive, a 700-room hotel that was adjacent to but unaffiliated with Baha Mar. That hotel closed during the pandemic and was later demolished. While it has not been officially announced yet, LATTE U.S. has been led to believe by resort management that the new hotel tower will be a Waldorf Astoria.

A representative from Hilton would not confirm the speculation, but said: “Hilton Luxury Brands are always looking to thoughtfully grow the Waldorf Astoria brand, and the Caribbean is definitely an area of interest. In fact, Hilton recently signed a deal to bring the Waldorf Astoria brand to Turks and Caicos Dellis Cay with an anticipated opening of 2028.”

What Guests Can Expect

What we know for certain, however, is the new hotel will be situated (pricewise) between the existing SLS and Rosewood Baha Mar resorts. It will also be a well-known international brand that does not yet have a presence in the Bahamas, according to Graeme Davis, president of Baha Mar. LATTE U.S. is also very certain that the hotel will be under Hilton’s portfolio.

Designed by Foster + Partners, the resort—whatever brand it may be—will be set on 12 beachfront acres and will have roughly 350 rooms and 65 residences. In addition, the hotel—according to the initial announcement—will house four new restaurants, including an Omakase experience on the hotel’s rooftop and a beachfront restaurant in partnership with a celebrity chef.

Guests of the future resort can expect a 14,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, luxury retailers, expansive pools, an outdoor bar, entertainment lounges and additional family amenities. The hotel will also house 25,000 square feet of dedicated indoor and outdoor event space.

The initial announcement said the project would total a $350 million investment but Davis told media that number would be closer to $700 million—double the initial projection. Davis added that he expects to finalize and announced the deal within 30 days.

Representatives from Baha Mar and the Nassau and Paradise Island Promotion Board declined to comment on the possibility of the hotel being a Waldorf Astoria.
