Crystal has set two key milestone dates in the construction of the first of potentially three new-build ocean ships, the first of which is scheduled for delivery in May 2028.

Steel cutting by Fincantieri for the first yet-to-be-named vessel will take place in May 2026, with the keel laying slated for December 2026 – officially commencing the next chapter in Crystal’s storied 25 year legacy.

These new vessels, which were first announced in July 2023, represent the first new builds for Crystal in a quarter of a decade, and under the ownership of Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group.

“Behind the scenes, our teams have been working diligently on every element of this extraordinary project—from design and craftsmanship to technical innovation,” remarked Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group. “These milestones represent more than construction progress; they are a testament to our shared commitment with Fincantieri to deliver the most exceptional ship at sea, on schedule and with an unparalleled attention to detail.”

Crystal said it will reveal the name of the new build “shortly”. Details of the all-balcony suite ship’s inaugural voyages and new suite categories will be released before the new year.

“Her inaugural 2028 season is set to go on sale next spring, with the waitlist opening in advance,” Crystal added.

As LATTE revealed earlier this year, this first ship will be constructed at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, near Venice. In April, Levis told us the lead-in suites will be slightly larger than what is configured on the original vessels. However, a significant design change involved increased storage capacity.
