Guests of Hotel AWA, a modern luxury retreat on the shores of Lake Llanquihue in Chile, can experience the volcanic natural wonders surrounding the property up close with new guided excursions. From gentle ascents through ancient forests to exhilarating glacier crossings, each small-group adventure is led by Certified Mountain Guides, ensuring both safety and a connection to the land and its stories.
Hotel AWA’s three Volcano Excursions include:
Osorno Volcano: Rising 2,650 metres high on the far side of Lake Llanquihue, Osorno offers physically demanding yet technically moderate challenges for excursioners. The total ascent is 1,500 metres. Two hours up, guided guests will reach a Glacier Station for rest and sunrise views. A few hours later, they will reach the summit.

Osorno Volcano Glacier Excursion: Osorno’s most distinguishing feature is its mountain glacier, characterized by conical morphology, with cracks in ice shaped by environmental forces into natural sculptural formations known as “seracs.” While physically demanding and moderately technical, this day-long excursion with an elevation gain of 900 metres offers an opportunity for guests to experience the formation and discover the dynamics of mountain glaciers amid jaw-dropping views of the Southern Andes.
Casa Blanca Volcano: An ascent of Casa Blanca Volcano offers the best view of the Southern Andes and other volcanoes throughout the Los Lagos region. Only moderately demanding and easy-to-moderate in technical difficulty, the day-long excursion has a total elevation gain of 940 metres, with points along the way including the Raihuén Crater and the summit at 1,990 metres above sea level.
Beyond the Hike
Regardless of the excursion, guests will return to the hotel in time for a lakeside dinner at AWA Restaurant, where locally inspired cuisine celebrates the flavours of southern Chile.

Good to know: Each Volcano Excursion is part of Hotel AWA’s all-inclusive rate, which covers hiking, kayaking, cycling and cultural experiences. Back at the hotel, guests can enjoy the spa, indoor pool or fireplace lounge—all with views of the surrounding volcano peaks.
For every two guests, there will be a certified mountain guide and an Active Wilderness First Responder accompanying all excursions. Guests will be provided with transportation to and from Hotel AWA, food and technical equipment (such as crampons, a helmet and trekking poles). Guests should be in good physical condition. Previous experience in trekking and/or other outdoor activities is required.
