An exclusive partnership between Azamara Cruises and the prestigious Lowell Observatory will offer guests front-row seats to the 2026 solar eclipse from the open sea, paired with expert-led astronomical programming.
Known for its Destination Immersion experiences, Azamara will host three unique eclipse-themed cruises, combining oceanic vantage points with scientific insight.
“Partnering with Lowell Observatory allows us to elevate this rare phenomenon into something even more meaningful for our guests,” Azamara Cruises CEO Dondra Ritzenthaler said.
“Their astronomers really bring the eclipse to life through stories, guidance, and hands-on experiences that deepen understanding while creating moments of awe.”

Each voyage features interactive programming led by expert astronomers from Lowell Observatory, a research institution with more than 130 years of celestial discovery. Guests can expect engaging lectures, stargazing sessions, live eclipse narration, and safe viewing with special eclipse glasses.
“For more than 130 years Lowell Observatory has helped people discover the universe, and our partnership with Azamara Cruises gives us a new way to share this experience – under the stars at sea,” Lowell Observatory Executive Director Amanda S. Bosh, Ph.D. said.
“Lowell scientists have a long tradition of eclipse research, and we’re excited to bring that history and passion to Azamara guests. From understanding how eclipses work, to standing together in the shadow of the moon, we look forward to sharing these truly memorable moments.”
The three solar eclipse sailings in August 2026 include: an 11-night Greece, Turkey & Italy cruise aboard Azamara Onward, departing 2 August from Athens; a 12-night Ireland Intensive cruise aboard Azamara Quest, departing Dublin on 7 August; and an 18-night Iceland, Greenland & Quebec cruise aboard Azamara Journey, departing Reykjavik on 8 August.
