COMO Shambhala Estate, the flagship wellness retreat of COMO Hotels and Resorts, has marked its 20th anniversary with a major transformation.
Set within a lush 22-acre sanctuary in Bali, at the convergence of the Ayung and Tibakauh Rivers, the hotel’s location is considered a “symbol of cleansing, purification and renewal in Balinese culture”.
“The Estate’s location resonates differently to any other place I know,” said COMO Group Founder Christina Ong. “It has a healing heritage that’s been here for thousands of years, revolving around the sacred spring and the energy of the flowing river. All I needed to do was honour that knowledge.”

The transformation project aims to tap into this sacred energy. The estate now features revitalised accommodation and a reboot of its Ojas wellness centre, considered the “therapeutic heart” of the property. Redesigned by Atelier Ikebuchi, the new Ojas space blends marble with Corian cladding and rich teak wood to create a tranquil setting.
New state-of-the-art wellness offerings include Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, infrared sauna sessions and a colonic hydrotherapy suite. The estate also introduces Watsu in its hydrotherapy pool and a dedicated Ayurvedic treatment space.
To make its offerings more accessible, COMO has introduced one-to-two-day Wellness Programs for both guests and day visitors. These include the COMO Cleanse, Tech-Inspired Wellness, and Vital Energy — each tailored to specific health goals through a combination of nutrition, health-tech therapies and traditional healing.

For deeper immersion, guests can explore the estate’s Wellness Paths, which offer personalised multi-night programs focusing on gut health, detox, mindfulness, fitness, and more. Signature six-night COMO Shambhala Retreats are also available, including the Longevity Retreat, inspired by Ayurvedic medicine.
Meanwhile, the renovated Wanakasa and Bayugita Residences feature treetop living among Bingkirai columns and a dramatic infinity pool with colonial-inspired intereriors respectively.
New facilities include contrast therapy suites, an upgraded indoor and outdoor fitness centre, and daily complimentary wellness activities such as sunrise yoga and Balinese purification rituals.
