Storytelling at sea’: Aurora unveils 2027 small ship program

Aurora Expeditions has officially launched its Small Ship Cruises 2027 Season, with newly appointed Chief Marketing Officer Katie Malone promising the program will connect travellers to history, culture and community “in a way only small ships can”.

Now open for sale, the new season features 21 extraordinary voyages that span 22 countries, with destinations ranging from the Mediterranean and Adriatic to Central America, Northern Europe and the UK.

“Our new season goes beyond cruising – it’s storytelling at sea,” Malone said. “Whether it’s a wine tasting in Bordeaux, tracing Viking sagas in Scandinavia, standing on the battlegrounds of Culloden, or visiting Prince Albert’s private car garage in Monaco, every voyage connects travellers to history, culture and community in a way that only small ships can.”

The itineraries deliver a blend of iconic destinations and lesser-known ports. Travellers will sail aboard one of three purpose-built expedition ships – the Greg Mortimer, Sylvia Earle, and the soon-to-launch Douglas Mawson – vessels designed to access intimate harbours that larger ships can’t reach.

The 2027 season introduces nine brand-new itineraries. Among them is A Mediterranean Feast, sailing from Valletta to Barcelona, which celebrates the rich culinary culture of the Mediterranean through visits to local markets, coastal kitchens, and family-run vineyards. La Dolce Vita offers a journey from Nice to Rome, weaving through cliffside villages and Renaissance towns with stops including Prince Albert’s private garage of classic cars in Monaco.

Treasures of the Adriatic will sail from Malta to Zagreb, unveiling Dubrovnik’s medieval walls, Alberobello’s UNESCO-listed Trulli houses, and the charm of Rovinj. Meanwhile, Costa Rica & Panama: Crossing the Canal showcases Central America’s lush landscapes and includes a transit through the legendary Panama Canal.

Additional highlights include Europe’s Engineering Icons, which explores architectural marvels from Amsterdam to Copenhagen, and Spirited Shores, tracing Europe’s coastal traditions through Irish whiskey, Bordeaux wines, and Portuguese ports. For Kin and Kingdom offers a deep dive into the royal, revolutionary, and ancient histories of England, Ireland and Scotland.

Aurora’s small ships average just 130 passengers and feature Master Storytellers – historians, genealogists, and cultural experts – who “bring destinations to life through captivating presentations and personal insights.”

Early bookers can save up to 25% on select voyages, with 10 solo staterooms per sailing available with no single supplement.
